Dry Honey Wine Wildflower on Bourbon Barrel
Trazo Mead Dry Honey Wine Wildflower on Bourbon Barrel (14% alcohol by volume) is a 2018 mead aged on a bourbon barrel. The honey aroma has some bourbon and oak behind it with a hint of smoke and a slight mustiness. It pours brilliant gold with good reflectance and produces nice long legs. Even though it is dry the honey makes it seam semi-sweet and leads the flavors. there is a hint of pomme fruit and a trace of smoke. Clean and smooth alcohol supplement the honey and a nice bourbon character comes through especially on the swallow joined by a trace of vanilla. Some drying oak astringency on the finish squeezes the perceived honey sweetness out. The mead has a medium body and the alcohol is mostly smooth and gently warming but there are some hot bourbon notes on the finish. This is a great sipping mead with the same allure as bourbon but not quite the impact. I rate it 90.
