Traditional Mountain Honey Wine
Redstone Meadery Traditional Mountain Honey Wine (12.0% alcohol by volume) is made from a blend of orange blossom and wildflower honey. It was produced April 10, 2016 and reviewed November 22, 2018. It has a rich honey aroma with a hint of orange, white wine and flowers. It pours brilliant amber gold leaving an initial ring of bubbles that lowly transform into a clear meniscus. The mead has good reflectance and a quick swirl produces clear, long, well developed legs. The flavors start a little above semi-sweet with honey flavors from start to finish, light white wine character peaking through, and traces of orange with moderate acidity that comes forward especially on the finish. A mild dose of tannins kick in on the finish reducing the sweetness to semi-dry. The mead is still with a medium to medium light body. This flavorful, easy drinking mead leaves a light sticky trace of honey on your lips. I rate it 90.
