Dead Bee Mead
Dead Bee Mead with Hibiscus and Spices
Dead Bee Mead with Hibiscus and Spices (17.0% alcohol by volume) smells like its name. the hibiscus comes first, then the spice followed by a mild honey. The alcohol aromas are clean with no evidence of higher alcohol or solvents. There is a slight fruit aroma. The cider is peachy pink with a light haze and a few odd bubbles wander to the surface. A swirl of the glass leaves definite, well defined legs. The mead is mildly sweet with alcohol flavors in the lead, backed by honey and hibiscus with the spices and fermentation flavors more in the background. The mead is mildly sweet with the alcohol and hibiscus providing the balance. A light touch of tannin on the finish provides mild drying. The alcohol is smooth, mildly warming and not hot or harsh. Th mead id still with a full body but nothing is syrupy or artificial tasting or feeling. This is a big boozy mead and although the alcohol masks some of the subtlety it is still very likable and drinkable. I rate it 83.
