Antwerpsesteenweg 496, 2390, Westmalle, Belgium
The full name of the abbey that houses this brewery is the Abbey of Our Lady of the Holy Heart of Westmalle. Monks of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (aka Trappists) founded the community in 1836 and they received abbey status in 1836. The abbey also owns a farm and a dairy. The sale of beer and cheese uports the Abbey and also supports the community's charitable work. They brew three beers: Westmalle Tripel, Westmalle Dubbel and Westmalle Extra. They brew Westmalle Extra twice a year for the monk's own use. They sell Westmalle Tripel and Westmalle Dubbel to support the community.
