Brewery, Taproom, Food
Local records fist mention the smoked beer brewery Schlenkerla in 1409. Records from 1387 indicate that a brewer owned the land the current brewery sits on and parts of the building foundation date from the 12th century. Although over the years they have replaced oak fermenters with stainless steel, added bottling equipment, added improved filters and installed indoor toilets, this place is still pretty old school. They have brewed according to the Rheinheitsgebot (Bavarian Purity Law) since 1516 and they still fire their kilns with beechwood logs.
