Waldmann Brewery & Wurstery
Bourbon Barrel Aged Dunkel
Waldmann Brewery & Wurstery Bourbon Barrel Aged Dunkel (8.5% Alcohol by volume) has an elegant sweet malty smell with some fresh bread crust, traces of toast, a hint of spicy hops, and a faint trace of bourbon. The fermentation character is clean and the beer has no chocolate or caramel in the aroma. It pours brilliant brown with ruby highlights under a moderate light tan cap with fair retention. The bourbon flavor hits you right away and has you saying "oh yeah, this is hits all the right flavor spots." All the Dunkel notes are there – you have the rich complex Munich malts, toasted bread crust, no harsh burnt graininess, and it is moderately malty but not oppressively so. There are faint traces of chocolate but nothing burnt or bitter, and the bourbon is really a nice touch with this beer. The body and carbonation are medium. This beer has just the right amount of everything and goes down clean and smooth. It someone else is driving you can drink this all night. If you are dining, drink it with anything German, anything pork or chicken. I rate it 85.
