Beered Dragon Trippel Belgian IPA

Under Pressure Brewing Company Beered Dragon Trippel BelgianUnder Pressure Brewing Company Beered Dragon Trippel Belgian IPA packs 8.5% alcohol by volume and 33 International Bittering Units. My can was packaged one week ago. It has won several gold medals and the Best of Show in beer competitions. A subtle, well developed spiciness leads the aromas with some pepper and spicy hop notes but no clove. Dried fruit with hints of date to fig supported by a rich malt background round out the aromas. Alcohol aromas are clean and smooth and the fermentation character supports the malt aromas with no chemical or higher alcohol notes. It pours deep opaque dark reddish brown with ruby highlights under a 1” somewhat fleeting light tan to off white cap with no lace. Soft grainy sweet malt flavors with a gentle roast support fruity, spicy fermentation flavors joined by smooth, soft alcohol and a pleasant dose of hop bitter and spicy hop flavor. It has nice pepper notes. The hop bitterness medium high to high and nicely balances and accents the malts. A little sweetness up front dries on the spicy, mildly bitter finish with a hint of smoke. The body is and the carbonation is medium low. This is an excellent beer that would do better bottle conditioned – loses a couple of points for poor head retention, lack of head size, no lace and low carbonation but it is a very good beer. I rate it 85 and not far from perfection
