Under Pressure Brewing Company
American porters are dialed up craft beer interpretations of English Porters. Under Pressure Brewing Company American Porter (6.0% Alcohol by volume, 27 International bittering Units) has a pleasant nutty, grainy aoma with medium roast seasoned with some bready notes and a whiff of toffee. There is nothing harsh or burnt and no dark coffee notes. The hop aroma is low and the fermentation character is low and complements the malt. It pours brilliant brown with garnet highlights under a thin tan cap with fair retention.
The flavor starts a little sweet with rich malt balanced by moderate bitter. Low hop flavor and some toffee notes lead to traces of chocolate that grow. There is nothing acrid, burnt or harsh in the flavor. Hop flavors and fruity esters are low and alcohol flavors are mild. The beer is malt forward with more bitterness as it warms and more in the aftertaste. The body is medium plus and carbonation is medium low. This malt forward porter offers just enough hop bitterness to keep it from being cloying or boring. Rich and malty the beer's malt treatment will appeal to a wide range of beer drinkers and make it an excellent drink for an afternoon of conversation or a date with a good book. I rate it 80.
