Steel Toe Brewing
Steel Toe has a reputation for producing solid well made beer sold at reasonable prices. Steel Toe Brewing Turn-Key is a Double Dry-Hopped IPA with 6.5% alcohol by volume and 43 International Bittering Units. I bought a 22 ounce bottle for $6.49 and it is as good if not better than many 750 ml (about 3.4 ounces more beer) crowlers that cost $3 to $5 more. This is Steel Toes version of a hazy, juicy New England IPA without the haze. Tropical hop aromas dominate leading with tropical fruit, citrus, and melon supported by light alcohol aromas and solid support from the malt. It pours brilliant gold under a massive 3" off-white cap with good retention. Rich hoppy tropical fruit leads the flavors supported by some berry and stone fruit notes. A mild soft maltiness provides support. The beer dries on the finish with medium high hop bitterness that has a long linger. while assertive, the hop bitterness is not sharp or harsh. The body and carbonation are medium. This beer is all about the hops and they are done well weaving together an assertive bitterness with layers of tropical hop flavors. Everything supports the hops and nothing gets in the way. I rate it 90.
