Glütiny Golden Ale
New Belgium Brewing brews Glütiny Pale Ale (5.2% alcohol by volume) with grains "crafted to remove gluten." Gluten free beer is made with grains that do not contain gluten such as sorghum, rice, corn and millet. With this beer New Belgium starts with malted barley (which contains gluten) and uses an enzyme that breaks the gluten proteins down into small little harmless bits. New Belgium has used a test to show that the gluten content in Glütiny is below20 parts per million but the Food and Drug Administration has not yet approved any test for determining the glutin content of fermented beverages.
Glütiny Pale Ale is an American Style Pale Ale that pours brilliant straw gold permeated with streams of gently rising bubbles under a 1/2' off white cap that descends moderately fast to a thick film as light grain, biscuit and spicy, herbal hop aromas rise from the glass. Fruit aromas are very light and there is some background earthiness. The palate is rich and malty with mildly sweet malt, some caramel notes, light fruit - pear to apple, and some mild hop spice. It finishes crisp with a hint of tartness. The hop bitterness is restrained and the malt sweetness is low to medium low. The beer combines an almost lager-like crispness and light body with a light ale flavor profile. The carbonation is creamy, soft and medium to medium high. I rate Glütiny Golden Ale 85.
