Green's Endeavour Dubbel Dark Ale
Green's Gluten Free Beers Green's Endeavour Dubbel Dark Ale (7.0% alcohol by volume, 24 International Bittering Units) is a Belgian Dubbel brewed with sorghum, millet, buckwheat and brown rice. I picked the bottle up at South Lyndale Liquors and its best by date is nearly 4 years in the future. It smells of fruit, faint barnyard, dark bread, raisins, and toffee. It pours deep dark brown under a 1" light tan foam collar with fair to poor retention. Rich malt, fruit and dark dried fruit start the flavors. Banana flavors are very low. Hop bitterness is moderate and hop flavors are low. The flavors are not as rich as barley based Belgian Dubbels and the fig and date flavors are not as pronounced. The darker grains help mask the sharpness of the sorghum. The beer is very creamy with a medium to medium light body and medium high carbonation. This does not have the rich bready fruit cake flavor of some Belgian Dubbels but it is very drinkable. I rate it 80.
