Green's Gluten Free Beers
Green's Discovery Amber Ale
Green's Gluten Free Beers Green's Discovery Amber Ale (6.0% alcohol by volume) is a gluten free strong bitter brewed with sorghum, millet, buckwheat and brown rice. I picked up my bottle up at South Lyndale Liquors. it has a best by date 3 years in the future which is optimistic for a non-pasteurized bottle conditioned strong bitter. There is a little cider in the aroma along with grains, earthiness, and a trace of toast. It pours copper amber with a slight haze. Rapidly rising bubbles struggle to support a 2" frothy white cap with poor retention. The flavors start with a touch of cider, apple, sorghum, buckwheat, with the grains becoming more prominent in the middle. The beer finishes dry. The rich malt flavors in a strong bitter are missing. The hop flavors are low and the hop bitterness is medium. It has a medium body and medium to medium high carbonation. This is a drinkable gluten-free beer but the variety of rich grain flavors leave you wishing for barley. I rate it 75.
