Clutch Brewing Company
Straight 8 Mosaic IPA
Looking for a big, bold, flavor-packed IPA that you can drink all night? Clutch Brewing Company Straight 8 Mosaic IPA (7.0% alcohol by volume) hits the nail on the head. Cracking the can releases big tropical fruit aromas, stone fruit, and berry with traces of pine and onion in the background. Yeast aromas are neutral yeast, alcohol aromas low, and malt aromas medium low. It is a beautiful beer pouring brilliant copper gold under a 3” lacy white cap with good retention. Sweetness peeks as the beer enters the mouth and then by mid-palate it gets hoppy in flavor and bitterness. Tropical fruit leads with hints of mango, stone fruit and pine. The bitterness is assertive and has a citrusy pine character. Malt is low with just enough clean grainy character to make its presence known. It finishes dry with low residual sweetness and has a lingering hop bitterness that has you wanting another sip. There is a trace dryness and astringency from the hops in the finish. The bitterness is not harsh. The balance is to the hops. the beer is smooth with a medium body and carbonation. The alcohol is there but is smooth, clean and not intrusive.
This is a big, well balanced bitter beer that is easy to drink and easy to repeat with a long dry bitter finish that you will enjoy immensely. I rate it 83.
