Clown Shoes The Exorcist (8.0% alcohol by volume) is an American Stout. It has a strong coffee and chocolate smell with no harsh or burnt aromas lightly softened with a whiff of dark dried fruit. Hop aromas are low to medium low. It pours deep dark brown with ruby highlights under a lacy 2.5" tan cap with good retention. Nice deep roast leads the flavors with espresso, dark chocolate and some alcohol leading to a drying finish. Dark dried fruit flavors in the background suggest prune, raisin and a hint of fig. The hops provide a nice bitter accent featuring espresso, chocolate and hops on the end as roast and hop bitterness interact and linger. Roasty, grainy astringency helps dry the beer out completely on the finish. The body is medium full and the carbonation is medium, creamy and very soft. The alcohol is mildly warming. This big, potent, dry stout is a pleasure to drink. I rate it 80.
