Bell's Kalamazoo Stout
Bell's Brewery, Inc. Bell's Kalamazoo Stout (6.0% alcohol by volume) pours deep dark brown under a 1/2" lacy, light to medium tan cap with fair to moderate retention. The beer smells of rich dark chocolate, mocha, fresh roast coffee, traces of dark dried fruit, and tracers of hops. Roasty grain aromas dominate but there is nothing burnt or harsh. Rich and creamy bitter chocolate fills the mouth with a mild sweetness that dries on the finish with some astringency from the roasted grains giving the beer more of a coffee character. Hints of dark fruit add complexity. There are no burnt or harsh roast flavors. The body is full, leaning to chewy and the carbonation is above average but very soft. This is a flavorful, well rounded stout. I rate Bell's Kalamazoo Stout 90.
