Barley John's Brew Pub
Cave Dweller Märzen
Barley John's Brew Pub Cave Dweller Märzen (8.0% alcohol by volume) pours bright to brilliant amber with an orange tint producing a 1" cap with moderate to poor retention. The beer looks effervescent with streams of rapidly rising bubbles. You can detect malt aromas from 2 feet away with bread crumb, light toast, and clean fermentation aromas with malt dominant. No discernible hop aromas. The palate starts sweet with bread crumb, bread crust and light malt flavors growing across the tongue, finishing slightly drier with a moderate hop bitterness. There is a lingering malt bitter aftertaste. The palate has some alcohol, no hop flavor. The front end is more malt forward but the malt comes into balance with the hops by the finish. It has a medium body and carbonation. This is a good, drinkable Märzen. I rate it 80.
