Bitters are typically relatively low strength session beers. Strong bitters range from average strength to slightly above. Extra Special Bitter or "ESB" is trademarked by Fuller for Fullers ESB. It is a strong bitter. Some brewers may call their strong bitte a "premium bitter."
Strong Bitter's alcohol by volume ranges from 4.6 to 6.2% and the International Bittering Units range from 30 to 50. Clarity is clear to brilliant and its color runs from Amber to Dark Brown. It produces a thin foam cap with poor retention.
