Warsteiner Premium Oktoberfest
My bottle of Warsteiner Brauerei Warsteiner Premium Oktoberfest (5.9% alcohol by volume) has a best by date 8 months in the future so it is reasonably fresh which perplexes me because the aroma starts malty with a hint of skunk. I picked it up out of a flourescent lighted cooler at the St. Louis Park Lunds. The bottle is brown with a light green tint which should have protected it. A few vigorous swilrs of the glass drive of much of the skunk revelaling some light bread crust and light toast aromas. It pours brilliant gold to light amber under a 1/2" white cap with fair retention. Streams of rapidly rising bubbles fill the glass. There is not as much skunk in the flavor as the aroma but it is still enough to irritate. The flavors lead with oyster cracker, bread crumb, light toast and a trace of fruit and finish with an assertive bitter with a slight acrid bite. The beer has a medium to medium light body and medium high to high carbonation. This is drinkable but barely. I rate it 70.
