Unchained Series Batch No. 24 - Spring Saison
My can of Summit Brewing Company Unchained Series Batch No. 24 - Spring Saison was packaged 5 weeks ago in mid-summer. Moderate levels of banana and Belgian yeast start the aromas joined by tropical fruit, some earthiness and traces of biscuit. As the beer warms pineapple and black pepper aromas come forward. It pours brilliant copper amber permeated by streams of rapidly rising bubbles under a 3" white cap with good retention. After 5 minutes the cap remains as a thick, lacy film. The Belgian yeast and hops combine to produce a fruit cocktail of tropical fruit, guava, banana, and light citrus and finishes mildly bitter and slightly dry.The beer is yeast forward with the malt less dominant but provides light biscuit for balance while the hops provide just enough bitter for complexity. Spring Saison has a medium light body and high but very soft carbonation. This is a refreshing, flavorful summer beer. A perfect beer to drink while avoiding mowing the lawn. I rate it 80.
