Dogfish Head Craft Brewery
Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout
Dogfish Head Craft Brewery Oak-Aged Vanilla World Wide Stout (16.5% alcohol by volume) has a rich aroma of vanilla, coffee, chocolate, a suggestion of smoke, oak, alcohol, molasses, dark dried fruit, prune, fig, and a hint of earth. It drops deep dark brown into the glass permeated by streams of very fine bubbles leisurely making their way to the surface. A 1" thick light tan blanket of foam slowly descends to a thick film. It is creamy with some oak tannins on the sides while dark roast coffee commands the middle supported by a range of grains, vanilla, caramel and chocolate. Mildly sweet dark dried fruits hold the front and weave through the chocolate. Alcohol dwells all the way through and grows warm and pleasant by the finish. It is not hot or harsh but it is big. The beer finishes bitter sweet chocolate with a slight oaky astringency and a pleasant vanilla note and hints of cinnamon. This is a big viscous, chewy and even oily beer with medium low carbonation. This complex, layered beer will cellar well but it never lasts more than a month in my cellar.
